The Playhouse initiatives Presents "Kakadu the Musical"
Have you ever imagined a night of music, drama and dance? Well it’s all happening in “Kakadu the Musical” The project is super-headed by creative arts loving couple,Uche Nwokedi (SAN) and his wife Winifred.
“Kakadu the Musical” named after the famous 60's Lagos nightclub, captures the excitement & possibilities birthed in era of wonderful music & distinct social life following the birth of a young nation.
A musical play set in the post independent era of Lagos - A time of the "twist" in Nigeria. Kakadu was the place to be, the place where it was all happening; you could not come to town and not go to Kakadu to party. It is a tale of love, passion, friendship and the absence of tribal boundaries that are a bane amongst all today. Kakadu is unrivalled art form with dance, drama and live musical performance; it has all and every marking of a successful musical production.

With the unforgettable music of the sixties and seventies intricately woven into the dialogue, we travel through this journey guided by a rich and diverse choral arrangement.
Speaking at the press conference, the director of the musical Mr. Chike kani Omo describes Kakadu as a theme of identity and experience of making memory matter so that the past has a value and relevance on the building blocks of the present and also of the future.. He referred to the likely impact on the Nigerian populace saying "it will evoke as well as answer many questions".
Also present at the press conference were veterans from the Nollywood industry “ Mr Nobert Young & Actress Tina Mba, who also made some shout comments on the play kakadu.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Young was overwhelmed, shed tears of joy and described Kakadu as the much needed voice and a must see… In his words, "We've heard a lot about Nigeria but Nigeria will not remain like this. Things will always go round - Nigeria is not going to die but it's not for us to think wishfully , Nigeria is going to survive only when we decide to tell ourselves the truth, face our challenges and we must work hard to make it happen" he would also play the character in Kakadu the Musical
Also speaking at the conference was Ms. Tina Mba, this is the first time she's taking part in a craft like this and anything close to musical, and in her own words, " We may have missed it along the way somewhere and we can retrace our roots, and that is why kakadu is here to ask “ARE YOU A NIGERIAN” and her answer is There is Hope, if we only we believe in ourselves, as a country, as a people as a nation as God’s own people”

Speaking to Ben Ogbeiwi, the musical director of the initiative, he says, "This is the time for change and if our politicians can't do it, then Music, Media and drama can do it" Mr. Ben would play the character of Lugard da Rocha, fondly called “Lord Lugard” in the musical
Kakadu the musical, is set to launch in Lagos at the Agip Hall, Muson Centre on 9 May 2013.Watch this space.
