Miss Sophia Chidinma Dijeh Of UNICAL, Emerged the Sixth Carnival Calabar Queen
Delectable Sophia Dejeh (Miss Hope Waddell) has emerged the sixth Miss Carnival Calabar on Saturday, December 22, 2013 and carted away mouth-watering prize. The beauty queen was pronounced the winner of the prestigious Miss Carnival Calabar Pageant 2013 after performing series of impeccable acts before the judges and the entire gathering.
The 20 year old Anambra state indigene and student of Theatre and Media studies, University of Calabar, has been declared the face of MACA, (Mothers Against Child Abadonment) an initiative of the wife of the State Governor, Mrs Obioma Liyel Imoke and will also serve as Ambassador for tourism, Cross River State. The event which took place at the highly reputable Venetian hall, Murtala Mohammed way was filled to capacity as honourable guests from all over the country conveyed to witness the historical event and were in no doubt thrilled with the fantastic performance of the contestants.
The pageant director, Enuma Chigbo, commended the judges and also promised that the pageant will continue to impact the lives of young girls and children around the country.
“I think the judges did an excellent job. Sophia is a very talented young lady with a lot of potential, and undoubtedly will play her role as MACA ambassador very well. I believe Her Excellency, the Wife of the Cross River State Governor should be very proud of how her MACA initiative has impacted on these young girls and the society as a whole. Through MACA apart from the obvious fact that abandoned babies have been saved, young girls have been given a chance to maximize their potential. I’ve seen this happen with all the Carnival Queens to date and I have no doubt that Sophia will take the already impeccable standards they have raised to even greater heights”.
Sophia was awarded lots of prizes including a brand new car, 2 million Naira, one year fabric supply from Vlisco, one year makeup supply and accommodation in the Government lodge. Speaking to the press at the event, the newly crowned queen promised to ensure that the rate of teen pregnancy will be drastically reduced in her time with the help of the creative crew behind the Miss Carnival Calabar Pageant. ” I hope to work closely with the initiators of this laudable project and will also influence young girls by using drama and theatrical activities to inform,educate and at the same time entertain during my school tours”.
The judges which included Nollywood multiple award winner and Delta State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Richard Mofe Damijo, Mo Abudu, Chris Ndule, Rosemary Okeke, and Ransome Owan applauded the contestants for the incredible performance and encouraged them to become advocates of MACA in their respective environments. Sophie was also admonished to be hardworking and committed to the vision of MACA and Cross River State.
The highly esteemed Carnival Calabar Queen Pageant has produced Six magnificent queens, Miss Chineye Uwanaka winner 2007/8, Miss Queeneth Orok, winner 2008/9 And Miss Mayen Ekpo, winner 2009/10, Miss Adaeze Eluke, winner 2010/11, Miss Emem Udonquak, 2011/2012 and the current queen, Miss Sophia Dijeh. These six remarkable young women have significantly impacted on youths in various secondary schools across the State through their abstinence advocacy programs.
