MTN Supports Schon Afrique Fashion Collections

MTN, Africa’s largest telecommunications network, gave vent to African relevance in fashion designs, as it threw its weight behind one of the continent’s most resourceful and popular fashion designers, Folake Majin, with her two daughters, Gogo Majin and Miss Majin, at this year’s Schon Afrique Fashion Show. The show, which held at the Expo Hall of Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, as round off for 2012, showcased three collections in one night. The collections were Diamond Collection by Folake Majin, Earth Collection by GM4FM’s Gogo Majin and Midnight Rainbow Collection by Miss Majin.

The collections, which featured fabrics from African print; Silk Chiffon, Satin to old vintage Aso-Oke and many others, put African fashion creativity at the fore-front.

The designs were feminine, girlish outfits that combine colours and style. For Folake Majin, the parent-designer, the Diamond Collection is not just about its bright mix but the lasting impact and durability.

Gogo Majin’s Earth Collection was a blend of Nature. She confided that she got her inspiration from her experience with Mother Nature and her persistent desire to create a girlish mix that has the potential to transform feminine designs. Meanwhile, Miss Majin, who created the Midnight Rainbow Collection, said her work originated from her passion for the rainbow. Rainbow being a mix of colours and radiance, the collection is a continuum of prominent and subtle colours that beat the imagination.

Overall, the three collections were a blend of creativity and charm that portrayed the current trends in African fashion designs. Uniquely, however, MTN is setting the pace for a wider embrace for Africa ingenuity and design. As the leading telecommunications network operator, the company aims to create the window of appreciation and patronage for the emergence of original African works, especially the trends that are emerging from Nigeria.
