PRODUCER URGES PROFESSIONALISM IN FILM PRODUCTION

A Nollywood film maker, Caesar Oruade, on Tuesday urged film producers to incorporate research into movie production in order to grow the industry.

Oruade, who is the sole proprietor of Caeszero Pictures Influx, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that film making should not be taken for granted if the entertainment industry would grow.

"It is high time we sat up and looked at film making as a profession; the way doctors, the way lawyers, the way engineers regard their jobs, and the way people regard them.

"We should not just wake up one morning and feel that the film industry, which is a segment of the entertainment industry, is where you can just start producing just because you have love for it or you have a flair for acting".

"Until you are ready to take film making as your profession I, as a film maker, would not want to be associated with you. Nollywood is fast rising; it’s going to take over from Hollywood."

Oruade, who was also part of the movie project, `Half of a Yellow Sun`, advised filmmakers to work hard in order to be able to achieve greatness in their chosen profession.

"Generally a majority of us in Nigeria do not have that reading habit, reading culture.
But thank God social media, TV, and other forms of media have come to stay now; so there are other means of learning"

"So, basically I think we should study; the solution to it is study the craft. Do research, not just study. After your research, you may discover that you have succeeded in bringing out one great channel of distribution".

"This is the kind of thing we should be doing. Every film maker needs to see himself or herself as a business person.

"So we need to keep researching and we will make it. "
