It was a night of celebration and great cheer as a dinner was held in honour of Mike Awoyinfa, Pioneer editor of the rested Weekend Concord newspaper, erstwhile Managing director/editor-in-chief of The Sun Publishing Company; Managing director/editor-in-chief of Entertainment Express newspaper at the Banquet Hall of the Sheraton Hotel, Lagos, last Sunday.

The event was organised by his journalism twin brother and long time friend, Pastor Dimgba Igwe, Associate Publisher, Entertainment Express and Sunday Express.

The dinner attracted Chief Olusegun Osoba, former governor of Ogun State, Dr. (Mrs.)Doyinsola Abiola, former M.D. of Concord Press Nigeria Ltd, Ovation publisher, Chief Dele Momodu, a host of dignitaries and other distinguished guest who came to celebrate with him.

For me, the high point of the evening was when, Pastor Dimgba Igwe, gave a short biography of the man and the influences that shaped his life and career.

Other high points of the occasion were the presentation of a gift [large portrait of the celebrant], to the celebrant by The Sun Publishing Limited & cutting of cake.

Among the guests at the occasion were (Dr.) Mrs Tokunbo Awolowo Dosunmu; Mrs Derin Osoba, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information who read a beautiful tribute “personally written” by Governor Babatunde Fashola; others were Senator Babafemi Ojudu, Bisi Onitilo, Taye Ajiyen, Hon. Chike Ogean and a host of others.

I would say the occasion was both a reunion and a birthday celebration, while speaker after speaker graced the podium to say a few words about the “birthday celebrant”
