"Shrek" spinoff “Puss in Boots" tops BOX OFFICE with $34 million

The "Shrek" spinoff “Puss in Boots" opened with a solid if not spectacular $34 million, which was still good enough for a Halloween weekend record.

The 3-D animated family film, spun off from DreamWorks' "Shrek" franchise, will hope to stay frisky next weekend and beyond to capitalize on largely positive reviews and audience reaction.

Way before Puss ever met Shrek; our suave and furry feline hero goes on a swashbuckling ride, as he teams with mastermind Humpty Dumpty and the street-savvy Kitty to steal the famed Goose that lays the Golden Eggs.

For those unfamiliar with the film beyond “The adorable and hilarious kitty from the Shrek films got his own movie,” hit the jump for the trailer and synopsis.  The film features the voices of Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Bob Thornton, and Amy Sedaris.
