… Movie To Premiere On September 23rd ON BET International


BET hit drama “Being Mary Jane”, starring award-winning actress Gabrielle Union, is to premiere exclusively on BET International in Africa from September 2013. 

Celebrating the values of family, strength and independence, “Being Mary Jane” chronicles the complex life of Mary Jane Paul, a fiercely independent and successfully modern African American woman encountering the highs and lows of balancing life, love, family and a demanding career.

Mary Jane Paul seemingly has it all as a beautiful and successful TV news anchor. In reality, she’s a self-sufficient powerhouse with a lacklustre love life who remains devoted to a family that doesn’t share her motivation. How far is she willing to go to find the puzzle pieces that she - and society - insist are missing from her life? Intense drama and unforgettable moments unfold as Mary Jane juggles her life, her relationships, her work and commitments to her family. 


Being Mary Jane” also stars Richard Roundtree, Margaret Avery, Lisa Vidal, Richard Brooks, Omari Hardwick, Tika Sumpter, Raven Goodwin, B.J. Britt, Aaron Spears, Latarsha Rose and Robinne Lee.

Being Mary Jane is BET Networks first ever original drama series.  “Being Mary Jane” was written by Mara Brock Akil and is executive produced by Salim Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil, who also directed.   The movie was produced by BET Productions and Akil Productions. 

The highly anticipated series debuts with a 90-minute movie special (BET International, 23:00 CAT, Sunday 22 September), while an 8-part series of “Being Mary Jane” is scheduled to premiere in February 2014.


BET International is available to 50 territories in sub-Saharan Africa via a wide range of DTH, DTT and cable platforms includingZuku (Channel 125), TopTV (Channel 190), DStv (Channel 135), GOtv (Channel 22), Startimes, MyTV and ZAP (Channel 74).
